Maltas Club Namibia and Sanlam Namibia held their 2nd Soup Kitchen at Aris Grundschule
Maltas Club Namibia and Sanlam Namibia partnered last weekend and held their 2nd Soup Kitchen at the Aris Grundschule 25 km outside Windhoek. The school was established in 1982 to give access to education to children from the surrounding villages. The school has approximately 189 learners, starting from Grade R to Grade 7, most of whom come from a very humble background from the villages nearby. The school has a staff complement of 8 teachers and 7 hostel caretakers. Thirty percent of the learners at the school are orphans or very vulnerable children. The purpose of the soup kitchen is to fight hunger by ensuring that each of the learners is provided with a nutritious meal. Secondly, the Maltas and Sanlam team also extended the “Keeping Rural Girls” in school initiative to the school.
The learners welcomed the team by singing various songs in their local language (KhoeKhoegowab). Ms. Riska Arnath the hostel Head Matron gave the visitors an induction about the school and shared some insights into the needs of the learners. Sanlam Namibia represented by Mr. Wessel Kotze made a monetary contribution of N$3000 to make the soup kitchen a success. This contribution also made it possible to educate the girls on sanitary health issues and all senior girls at the school were given health towels and toiletries. On a lighter note, a soccer ball was also donated to the school boys, and the girls were given a ball for Netball.
Maltas Club Namibia intends to conduct two more soup kitchens at the Aris Grundschule in the second semester 2024. Another key event planned for the year will be a Christmas Party for the elderly on 8 December 2024 in Okafitu (Omusati Region).
